Autumn Winter 14/15 Knitwear Lowdown!

Looking for a trans-seasonal buy? Wanting to get ahead of the crowd? Here is an overview of what could be made available to you in the knit market for Autumn Winter 2014/15!

The Coatigan

The bigger the better. Expect to see dressing gowny, cocooning, swaddling cardigans with exaggerated colalrs and kimono sleeves. Knitted in aran cables, fisherman ribs and bobbled yarns!

Navaho and Tribal Patterns

Chunky cowichan jackets use marled and rustic yarns to reinvent and add further dimension to tribal patterns. Not only are the yarns turning this artisan style into a modern trend, expect to see the knit paired with chunky biker zips, toggles and chunky button bands to update the old into the new.

Crew Neck/Cable

Next season sees the cable being developed in a manner of ways.

Slouchy cables are being used to create voluminous shapes then being paired with intricate detailing to create a soft and feminine appease. Fair Isle and Marl yarns are being infused to add colour and pattern to add dimension. The use of soft yarns, such as soft mohair, angora or fluffy yarns, are causing patterns and colour to blur into a dreamlike sugar rush.

If you’re after an urban trend, don’t panic! Knits will be colour blocked into wide blocks and oversized prints to create a bold statement with an urban feel.

Roll Neck

As this season saw the roll neck slowly creep into the limelight, this was all in preparation for next years spectacular!

As the necklines widens, the hemlines shortens! Slouchy and cowled necks are being paired with rising hemlines to crate super slouchy and super cropped jumpers. Whether being knitted in a cable, rib or with fluffy yarns I think we can all agree these are adorable!

Heavy gauge knits are being used to fulfill and emphasise proportions of the garment in; as I said, the bigger the better thesis! 

If any of these have inspired you to get knitting, (and lets be honest, a jumper will take a year... at least) then there are many ways to get going. Try using youtube videos to teach yourself the different stitches and techniques. Start of with projects that you want/will use, as it encourages you to finish! Best Of Teen Choice Awards 2013

So Yesterday saw the Teen Choice Awards Ceremony 2013 taking place at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, California , and it's the perfect opportunity to see what the young, uprising and future stars are wearing to grace the stage.

WearMeOutx Wardrobe Update!

After weeks of research and prep I am finally in a position to share what I have been up to on the dress making front!

Fabric:

My Grandad used to work at Liverpool Docks drawing up technical designs and blueprints of boats in ink onto a woven linen like canvas which had been treated with some gluey substance to stiffen. (thank god for technology so I don't have to do that) He had kept a number of these which he has now passed onto me to make some use out of them!

After numerous attempts of trial and error experiements I have found how to remove the gluey substance so that it leaves the print on the fabric!

Design:

Using this fabric, I have designed (doodled) a couple of tops and shirts to create; the reason I can only really make tops is because the length is fairly short and I have to keep it this way so the writing and drawing is the right way up! ec-cet-a-rwar

London Collections Men: Day 2 Trends!

Firstly, I apologise for the quality of this post, I was awake far to early and I have been busy literally every second of this day resulting in one exhausted girl! So I have rushed this so I can recover in bed A.S.A.P!

I also wanted to point out I am studying as a designer, not a trend-spotter so these are pretty amateur attempts! It's just recurrences I have noticed as I have been watching all the collections!

London Collections Men: Day 1 Trends

Yesterday kick-started London Fashion Collections for Spring Summer 2014! Ideally, I wanted to give updates twice a day, but unfortunately yesterday I was preoccupied with the family with it being fathers day and all and tomorrow I have an interview!

So with delay, here are a few trends I have seen appearing from yesterdays collections!

Nearly every collection featured some variation of fabric with a rubbery texture or glazed sheen.

Its probably executed best in Kay Kowks' collection. Here's the youtube video as it best illustrates what i mean with the whole sheen rubbery thing!

Androdomes

Concept Board

Having had a flick through my Portfolio from the past year, there are a few pieces that really stand out to me. In this blog I am sharing some of my work from one of my university projects, where we had to design an outfit out of recycled garments, based on a theme generated from a title we picked out of a hat.

The title was Domestic, and after research and other such boring things my mind somehow conjured up a theme I called AndroDomes (androgyny/domestic), based on the ideology that being androgynous, or crossing dress and other related issues 'break' the domestic norm and can cause fear, rejection and abuse from others.

I wanted to develop and design a garment which was androgynous, yet showed elements of protection from the possibility of facing abuse. Protection for being yourself.

Print Out

This is just a quickie on one of my new(ish) purchases which is fast becoming one of my summer staples!

Being a jobless student, I picked these printed trousers up for £7 at a George at ASDA mid season sale, (practically stole them I think!).

I have worn them with sheer shirts, vests, cropped jumpers but today I have styled them with a forever 21 loose waterfall blazer which i gathered at the back to show more of my figure and a pair of platform wedges from tk maxx.

Tomorrow I plan making most of the weather by taking some nature/scenic photography which will form my next post to be published in the next few days!

huh? I'm setting up a blog?

After months of deliberation, weeks of procrastination (...I mean preparation) D-Day is finally here...

... I have launched a blog! :O

With writing not being one of my strong points, or being blessed with any skill of expressing myself for that matter, also considering my lack in social media presence (apart from facebook, used primarily for candy crush purposes) I have decided it could only be beneficial to branch out into the world of tinterweb communication.

So in an exciting turn of events I have thrown myself into the deep end and set up a twitter account, as well as launching my blog!

I should warn you that this could possibly turn out to be one of the worst twitter profiles to be created, to find out, follow @HannahBascombex

If you are still reading this, it means I haven't put you off with my top notch promotional skill set. For that you should be congratulated, and for your reward, I shall unveil some of the ideas and content I plan on publishing through this blog!

- I have recently obtained shed loads of fabrics, pattern pieces and other componements to add to the other shed full. I was then faced with the parents sudden wrath of the dreaded 'clear out'. This hindrance somehow sparked the idea to modernise some of the patterns, make them up, and sell them, along with other textile and jewellery pieces! (wearmeoutx, makes more sense now?) So I can get rid of some of the fabrics and exercising what I have learnt at uni this year! Let us hope it all goes to plan!

- I feel my drawing/illustration skills aren't up to scratch, so I am following a book course titled 'Fashion Design Drawing Course' by Caroline Tatham and Julian Seaman in an attempt to improve my confidence and skills. I am aiming to upload some of my 'achievements' each week for some honest and critical feedback!

- Then as with any other blog I will use my corner of the internet to expose my own thoughts and opinions as well as a few updates on what's happening in my life!
