I'm A PES(ce)T!

Hey Guys!

So this is  post 1 which will feature sort of a weight loss / about my diet / lifestyle choice esque information which I have been meaning to write ever since I starting blogger at the beginning of summer, and just didn’t have the balls to do. I couldn’t be more nervous about posting this if I tried, but, I have convinced myself though if it will help only one person it worthwhile posting!

So through a series of events (starting from 2 years ago when I started uni) I felt I’ve gained a lot of weight, which I noticed a lot more this past year, which was making me feel very down in the dumps, so I naturally began a deep re-evaluation of my lifestyle.

One of the major decisions I took was to become a pescetarian, which for those of you who don’t know, is a vegetarian who eats fish and seafood. I made this decision for 2 main reasons.

1) Being a student. I can only afford the vilest of meats, the ones with about 80% water in, I was just becoming bored with the taste and texture and wasn’t enjoying eating meals anymore

     2)  I also challenge you to name a fat vegetarian. (I am aware there are a few… damn you cheese…but you get what I am saying)

With eating fish, you are still able to gain a wider variety nutrients, have a wider menu selection so you’re not feeling so restricted; It has just been a guideline to making healthier food choices and to get me back into eating proper meals again rather than just eating junk so I avoid the dreaded water infested meat.

If this is a decision you are thinking about making yourself, there are a few things to consider.

Firstly, is anyone you are living with an omnivore? For example, I am currently living with my parents, grampy and brother who are all omnivores and we always eat the same meal at dinner together. So I had to consider the implications of changing my diet, as in would I have to make my own separate dinner every night etc, Luckily for me because of gramps we have very ‘English’ meals. Meat, Potato, Veg. So switching the meat for a veggie side wasn't too difficult.

Another subject that may be interest you… you may want to look into sustainable farming of fish and research into how they’re are cultivated if that’s a subject that matters to you, as sourcing our fish can have a massive impact on the environment and other such things.

Also, without trying to make you all sound dumb, you don’t eat fish or seafood every day. I’d say I would have it about 3 times a week. This is because if you eat too much fish you can get high levels of certain substances, reportedly mercury which could be… problematic.

One more thing... I would advise to slowly change your diet. maybe only eating one veggie meal a week or removing one type of meat from your diet and make the change slowly, as myself and a few other people I know who took meat out of their diet felt really ill a week or so in! It does pass after about two weeks but you just feel really tired and that you have no energy! Just to warn/advise!

Overall I would highly recommend considering it as a lifestyle choice. I have lost weight, improved my health and eaten a lot of new foods as well!

I would also like to give a shout out to Georgia at the pescetarian pantry, as I love looking at her recipes and her guide to becoming a pescetarian posts are also 10x better than mine!

Money Saving Conquest!

Hey Hey!

After reading many a many blog posts recently about 'saving money' and going on spending bans an thrifty shopping..this got me thinking about my own terrible spending habits!

I am awful at saving. As soon as I have a penny I am looking to spend it on the nearest tat (as a haul post coming later on this week will show...ooops) After this haul and reading all these posts. I have decided to write down 5 things that I have seriously considered buying; and seen as I am now employed I would naturally run out and buy on payday, and weigh up the pros and cons of each to see if they're genuinely worth buying.

As I was brewing up this master plan. I discovered the root to my mothers thriftiness as she said;
"before you buy something, think about how many hours you would've worked, in order to pay for it"

and alas... the plan 102839418 to save money began!

The Chosen 5
One I originally wrote on the list. 'Smartphone' I have already decided to go ahead with! I have never ever owned any smartphone of any kind. The closest I had was a phone with a touchscreen but it only sent texts and called people! haha! All I wanted from this phone 'upgrade' was for it to have a high megapixel camera, and good internet access. I found the Sony Xperia T, which when bought on contract from Three Mobile cost me £20 for the all you can eat data and etc per month. So that's 4 hours of work a week to give me a phone for a month. Brilliant!

The other four...

1) Microbraid extensions
I have wanted these done for many years (I think possibly when Zoe Birkett was on pop idol in 2001) but I only wanted a couple of these done in the very front of my hair, that bit in front of your ear which is just never right. However, I had a scalp condition that prevented me from looking into it, until finally this year we have discovered a treatment which is working for me. I then went straight for a consultation (see about the quick spontaneous spending) and have been quoted £120 to have it done! That's around 18 hours of work so still undecided on whether or not to take the plunge!

2) Printer
Since being on my course at uni, one of the biggest problems and expenses I have faced is printing. I had been considering buying a printer, a fancyish one with a scanner and for it to possibly print A3 to save time, hassle to grief. After a quick visit to costco I saw that they had a few available. Dad caught me browsing and we got discussing if its worth it or not. In short he said don't think about getting an A3 one, as the type of work I do, the amount of ink it would take would end up costing me MORE than it already is! He agreed though on an A4 printer and we are just waiting on some fantastic deal to appear out of mid-air!

3) Hair Diffuser
This is just an ease thing, in my uni house as a money saving choice we avoid putting the heating on, this however means my hair can take ages to dry! So I had considered getting a hair diffuser so I can dry it curly then go. However seeing the results of most of them.. I may just ask for it as a present. We shall see how we go!

4) Black Dungarees
I put this on the list as I have been searching for the perfect pair for what feels like years so I know as soon as I see a pair I like I will pay for just to rid the issue.
Having a nosey on the internet today. I have seen a pair on ASOS for £31.50 which I really like. Then a similar pair for half the price at £18 from boohoo, but you can even tell from the picture it isn't half as nice which led me to a conundrum hopefully you would be able to help me out on.

Is it worth paying more for something which may be only slightly nicer?

Boohoo £18
ASOS £31.50

The award is especially for upcoming bloggers, so as a rule they must have under 200 followers!

Check out Hannahs Blog here J

11 Facts About Me!

1)      My Full name is Hannah Rebecca Bascombe, I am 20 years old from the Wirral

2)
I am a Uclan Fashion Design Student and will be starting my second year in September

3)
I am a Pescetarian! I have been for about 7 weeks, (blog post soon with more info!)

4)
In my opinion, I am always right! People often avoid me for advice because they know it’s not what they want to hear. Then all turns out if people listened to me more, the world would be a better place!

5)
In extension of 4, I am not a very comforting person. So for a heads up, do not come crying to me!

6)
My future ambition is to be part of a family business me and my cousins are going to start up (not telling you anymore incase you steal our WONDERFUL idea)

7)
May be too obsessed with Karl Pilkington. Pretty sure Ricky Gervais has made his millions offa me as I own all the DVDs, podcasts books etc its more of a joke than Karl is.

8)
Another ambition of mine is to go to all of the fashion capitols (preferably when the weeks are on) and I plan to start this venture once I have finished my degree. If I have any pennies left L

9)
I LOVE festivals! This is the first time in 3 years I will not be attending any and I am devastated! I have been to V, Leeds and worked at BT London Live for the Olympics which had concerts on each evening (mini/not really festival)

10)   I am not really into films. I don’t know what it is, I think they are just getting too long and I get bored. Like Les Mis, As much as I appreciate how good the set was blardy blar but there is NO need for it to be 2 and a half hours long. NO need. Cut out some of the singing and instrumentals and then boom. May have held my attention longer.
11)
I hate flat things on walls. This may sound odd, what I mean is I personally hate having like photos blue-tacked onto my walls or having posters etc. they have to be sticking out! So I have like a photo cork board then some poster like images on canvas so they stick out! Then I have photographs on a chandelier. Don’t know what it is, just can’t be doing!

Hannahs Questions

What’s your favourite smelling beauty product?
Errr, possibly the Body Shop Define & No Frizz Brazil Nut Hair Cream? Has a sort of nutty cocoa buttery smell to it! Great seen as due to a scalp condition I have I used DISGUSTING smelling hair products so this covers it up nicely J

Describe yourself in three words.
Girl Next Door

Lipstick or lip gloss and name your favourite.
Lipstick, I think I am really too fussy with lip-glosses as I often think they feel too sticky/fade quick. Although in all honesty, I tend to use anything but lipsticks or glosses!! As in I am using a lot of ‘lip creams’ ‘lip crayons’ and my go to lip product at the moment is Rimmel Apocalips! I own them in shades Big Bang, Celestial, Apocaliptic and Luna! With the 2 for £10 offer on at the moment I hope to buy them all!!!!

Plain eyes and a red lip, or statement eyes and a nude lip?
Statement Eyes and a Nude Lip – I get told that my eyes are my best feature, may as well go on that trail!

What beauty product do you feel like everyone has tried, and you should have, but you haven’t? (A bit like me and the MAC scenario!)
Kate Moss for Rimmel lipsticks! Everyone raves about them and I do really want to try one! I just have similar colours of them so don’t have to urge to buy them!

Can you remember the first makeup you bought, and what was it?
Ooooh I have no idea! I have a feeling though it was a lipgloss from natural collection when I was possibly in year 7 or 8? Those were the days!

Where is the nicest place in the world that you have ever been?
I really don’t know about the ‘nicest’ place in the world as have not travelled very much! The places I remember really enjoying was when we went on a family holiday to Newquay years ago and stayed in a caravan site called travella, Love that holiday! (I really hate Cornwall now and the new go-to place for us is The Gower!) My favourite ‘view’ or place to sit and be is certainly not nice! Near where I am from, there is a bench at a park which is on the top of a hill, and you sit there get to see a town called Birkenhead and the docks and across to Liverpool! No idea why I like it so much!

Would you ever consider starting a YouTube channel?
Personally? I think it would make certain elements of blogging easier such as tutorials and I think they can improve reviews etc. however I think I lack the confidence and sort of on-screen personality which makes YouTube channels so interesting!

What was your favourite subject in school?
hmmm, I am really torn between textiles and psychology! Erm Erm Erm ooh I don’t know it’s too hard!

What are your favourite blog posts to write?
I really enjoy the illustration blogs, primarily because you really don’t need to write much as it’s mainly visuals which is what I’d say I am more interested in? Even though I am a blogger and I read other peoples, I tend to look at the pictures then decide if it’s worth reading? Hahaa makes me sound like a terribly blogger but what will be will be!

Do you have any pets? (crossing my fingers for some pictures of cute puppies here everyone, hint hint)
DOGGIE! Yes our household is blessed with a border terrier called Dylan. He is coming up to 4 and a half and looks like a little grumpy old man! Que Visuals…

My 11 Questions:

1)      Signature Make Up look?

2)      What’s one of the scariest things you’ve ever done?

3)      Favourite High Street Store?

4)      If you could visit any country in the world, where would you go?

5)      Go Out or Stay In?

6)      If you could go back in history, who would you like to meet?

7)      Beauty Product you would recommend most and why?

8)      What are some of your major goals in life?

9)      What’s your favourite fashion designer?

10)   What’s one thing on your ‘bucket list’?

11)   Why did the chicken cross the road?

Who am I Tagging!?
I am very aware that some of you may have been tagged before, in which case, I apologise! I won’t be offended if you don’t do another one but I would love a link to the original! J

What's In My Bag?

After finally getting a job on Tuesday, I decided to congratulate myself by finally replacing my old disintegrating handbag I have possessed for the past 2 years (you did a great job). Now that My new purchase has been lived in the for past 5 days I thought it would be best to write a what's in my bag post before I get the chance to destroy this new one! (won't take much for that to happen!)

This is the new purchase! It's a leather satchel with woven panels from TK Maxx for £29.99! I think with bags it's worthwhile splashing the cash a bit more, as it has survive daily use, go with most outfits, be multiseasonal and be big/strong enough to carry most girl junk!

The contents released!!
So far, I have managed to keep myself from hoarding rubbish in my bag (guilty as charged), although I have no idea how long this will last!

Purse: Primark £4
Umbrella: Fulton £20 (Jokes, Poundland, £1)

Yes. Genuinely my phone. No its not temporary. Owned it for 1 and a half years. Moving on...
Ipod Classic
Carmex lip balm: Primark £2
Diary: WHSmith £6.99
Glasses Case: Claire Accessories
Victorias Secret Love is Heavenly Body Mist Travel Size £9.00 (Favorite Scent!)
Sunglasses: New Look £2.99

Whats in your bag!?

Monday, 3 June 2013

huh? I'm setting up a blog?

After months of deliberation, weeks of procrastination (...I mean preparation) D-Day is finally here...

... I have launched a blog! :O

With writing not being one of my strong points, or being blessed with any skill of expressing myself for that matter, also considering my lack in social media presence (apart from facebook, used primarily for candy crush purposes) I have decided it could only be beneficial to branch out into the world of tinterweb communication.

So in an exciting turn of events I have thrown myself into the deep end and set up a twitter account, as well as launching my blog!
I should warn you that this could possibly turn out to be one of the worst twitter profiles to be created, to find out, follow @HannahBascombex

If you are still reading this, it means I haven't put you off with my top notch promotional skill set. For that you should be congratulated, and for your reward, I shall unveil some of the ideas and content I plan on publishing through this blog!

- I have recently obtained shed loads of fabrics, pattern pieces and other componements to add to the other shed full. I was then faced with the parents sudden wrath of the dreaded 'clear out'. This hindrance somehow sparked the idea to modernise some of the patterns, make them up, and sell them, along with other textile and jewellery pieces! (wearmeoutx, makes more sense now?) So I can get rid of some of the fabrics and exercising what I have learnt at uni this year! Let us hope it all goes to plan!

- I feel my drawing/illustration skills aren't up to scratch, so I am following a book course titled 'Fashion Design Drawing Course' by Caroline Tatham and Julian Seaman in an attempt to improve my confidence and skills. I am aiming to upload some of my 'achievements' each week for some honest and critical feedback!

- Then as with any other blog I will use my corner of the internet to expose my own thoughts and opinions as well as a few updates on what's happening in my life!

Stay Tuned!
